Saint-Herblain is a rural town endowed with a hilly landscape and streams and which became a vacation site for the inhabitants of Nantes and, more generally, for city dwellers yearning for greenery, in the 18th and 19th centuries. Undergoing continuous expansion and teeming with initiatives, Saint-Herblain has become the third city of the dÈpartement, a city that takes on many looks with neighbourhoods as different as Bellevue, Les Ecarts village, la Crémetterie, le Sillon de Bretagne, le Tillay, Preux, la Gournerie, whereas four large parks take up a large area of the town territory. The historical heritage of the city consists of several remarkable buildings like the Château de la Gournerie, the manor house of la Bégraisière, Saint-Hermeland church, which is listed as an Ancient Monument. Saint-Herblain is also well-known for its cultural life thanks to its festivals and its equipments (La Carrière, Onyx cultural centre, and a Zénith that had open up to the public in December 2006).
