“Cama”
Los Carpinteros

Curator: Sophie Legrandjacques

Placed at the end of Escal’Atlantic visit, “Cama” of “Los Carpinteros” will be set in the recreated dining room of the liner “France”. An ideal place for this bed, which overflows from its usual space and, according to the view points, plays with the change from 2-dimensional to drawing, to 3-dimensional, to sculpture. This bed, absurd and dreamlike object evokes fluidity but also and above all, the impossible trip, the forced return, insularity. The only possible trip is a motionless trip brought by sleep through dreams.

Los Carpinteros, artists group made up of Marco Antonio Castillo Valdés and Dagoberto Rodriguez Sànchez, work in the Havana since 1991. They are interested in the point of intersection between art and society, merging architecture, design and sculpture and creating unexpected, funny and poetic works. Los Carpinteros create objects and drawings of objects standing half-way between useful and useless notions transforming the perception of our environment.
