Bouée

Independent of Savenay in 1790, two priories were built along the Loire River : Sainte Anne de Rohars and Saint Hilaire du Tertre. In the 16th century, Rohars harbour enjoys an important fluvial activity. It is besides during this rich period that are built the castles and beautiful dwelling houses that we can still admire nowadays. It is only at the beginning of the 20th century that Rohars loses its harbour nature with the construction of levees on the Loire.

Bouée is mainly a rural town, but, owing to its history, its architectural heritage is very rich – castles, manors, church with a statue of “la vierge et l’enfant” dating back to the 21th century, mills, houses with great character, crosses.

The marshes, wet lands and lands liable to floods which in the past were undesirable, represent today an undeniable zoological and botanical interest. The town can be easily discovered through the 18 km of marked pedestrian trails.
